Around two million people have been affected by devastating floods in Pakistan’s Penjab province, which has been described as “the worst flooding in the province’s history.” Water levels have reached unprecedented heights, causing widespread destruction. More than 1,100 people have lost their lives as a result of the disaster.
Local authorities in Pakistan have converted schools, police stations, and security facilities into relief centers, while evacuations continue—many carried out by boat.
South Asia regularly experiences heavy monsoon rains between June and September, which often trigger large-scale natural disasters and accidents, particularly in India. Since June 26, more than 800 people have died in Pakistan due to flooding, while in India’s Himachal Pradesh, nearly 300 fatalities have been reported since early June.
