The United Nations (UN) warned the country's hunger crisis is on the way, stating food supplies in Taliban-held Afghanistan will run out by the end of this month.
Ramiz Alakbarov, the UN Representative for Humanitarian Aid in Afghanistan, emphasized a third of the Afghan population of 38 million would be deprived of the opportunity to feed themselves every day.
The UN's World Food Programme has
distributed food to tens of thousands of people in Afghanistan in recent weeks,
Alakbarov reported, adding that by the approach of winter and drought, it
urgently is needed $200 million to sustain vulnerable citizens
Money hasn't come for 1,3$ billion in relief fund
According to the UN, only 39 percent of the 1,3$ billion in aid funding needed for Afghanistan has been completed.
Besides food shortages in Afghanistan, officers have not been paid for months. The Afghan currency has lost value rapidly, while the country's foreign exchange stocks abroad have been suspended by several countries after the Taliban seized power.
In a speech at Georgetown University in Washington, the country's former Finance Minister Khaled Payanda predicted that the Afghan currency would soon lose more than 100 percent of its value.
