Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) stated that an earthquake occurred on January 23, 2022, as far as 17 kilometers from the coast of Çanakkale Ayvacık district. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 7 kilometers below the ground.

The earthquake was also felt in Balıkesir, İzmir, and surrounding areas. It was reported by the Governorship of Çanakkale that there was no damaging situation in the region.
