Zaynab Asık, a 12-year-old who lost her mother in attacks by Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria and whose father had been killed in the camp, is taking care of her three brothers and her sick grandfather. Zaynab and her family were gifted a house by our teams.
Within Syria aid efforts, the opening of 250 briquette houses was carried out. Briquette house with furniture was presented to Zaynab and her family, who immigrated to Idlib.
Zaynab's mother was killed four years ago in a regime attack at Katra camp, where she had fled attacks in the eastern countryside of Idlib. Zaynab, whose father also passed away by an unidentified murder, has been caring for her sick grandfather and trying to be a mother and father to her siblings Tayser (11), Nour (9), and Menar (7) in a makeshift tent.
"As soon as we listened to the news of Zaynab and her family, we started out to meet them. We temporarily quartered Zaynab and her family living under unhygienic circumstances in the tent city in one of the briquette houses we built in Kelbit area. We met the family's needs such as furniture, food, stove, and fuel. We started building a bigger house for the large family. We will hopefully make Zaynab's studying dream come true with the opening of the school, that we built in the region." said Huseyin Kumru, the member of Syria aid efforts team.
3500 Briquette Houses
Hundreds of thousands of refugees, including Zaynab and her family, have migrated to the Turkish border, which they see as a safe haven after the attacks in Syria. In order to solve the sheltering problem experienced by Idlib refugees, mass housing projects consisting of a total of 3500 briquette houses are being carried out in 19 different regions. Also, mosque, school, and park constructions are carried out in line with the needs of the refugees. Around 20,000 civilians will benefit from the homes we have built.
